Stef Veldhuis is a conceptual composer from Utrecht, The Netherlands. In his work, he approaches his craft, music, from different points of view. He often collaborates with scientists, choreographers, philosophers, photographers, and many more, encompassing their perspectives into his work. Stef believes that real innovation can originate from these interdisciplinary convergences. Lately, Stef has been working on the "Music by Oceans" project in which he conveys oceanographic data on the temperature, salinity, and movement of the water into compositions for string quartet. Through this work, he raises awareness about the different problems that our oceans are facing, as a result of man-made climate change. "Stef belongs to a new generation of inventive creators with a unique sound. He is a wayward, original musician that bursts of energy bearing an unrestrained fantasy and broad musical frame of mind." -Albert van Veenendaal, www.albertvanveenendaal.nl Stef has worked together with and received commissions from among others: Rijkswaterstaat Universiteit Utrecht Holland Opera Gaudeamus Muziekweek Ambassade van de Noordzee Nederlands Instituut Voor Onderzoek Der Zee Festival de Oversteek Julia Heider |
