"White shoes of the running singers on the cement floor. Their panting echoes throughout the cold hall. Apart from that it is completely silent. A thrilling, exciting, almost confronting silence. In a trance we, the audience, feel the energy of the circle that is being run around us.
Then they stand stil.
In the centre the life that has been sung fades, accompanied by the same choir that birthed it. And we are amazed, touched and slightly confused by the intensity of the performance. The circle is complete."
-Wies van der Heyden
Circles is the first project of Macondo, a band formed by guitarist Vic Willems and myself. With Macondo we make epic music in small occupations.
Together with a choir of four singers we created the interdisciplinary performance Circles in which we explore the circulair nature of life. An interwoven musical journey that travels through birth, death, loss of childhood and love.
Circles is a performance that leans heavy on concept. More about the ideas behind the production can be found below.
"With it’s well thought-through theme, the beautiful location, the extraordinary compositions and performance, Stef puts together a successful performance that clearly differs itself from a traditional concert."
Players: Stef Veldhuis, Vic Willems, Sophie Wiegersma, Anne-Fleur Kan, Janna Lagerström and Melle Berendsen
